The war against nature continues.
Unfortunately it looks as if the fires that are still going here in Vic have been merciless. The death toll is now 130, with 750 homes burnt to the ground. 5000 people are homeless.
Our school announced at assembly this morning that we would be organising a fundraising event to go towards the appeal.
Even the 500+ kids in the assembly felt the enormity of the situation with a dull quiet falling over the group whilst the principle was talking about the evnts of the weekend.
Today I found out that a good friend who grew up in St Andrew, and who's parents still live there is in grief and shock. Her parents evacuated away by car at 5pm Saturday. A Wildfire came through St Andrews at 9pm Saturday & 20 people who stayed to defend their homes and farms property all perished, all gone. Sonia is in shock for her family's friends. Miracle on Miracle, the police let Pat & George back in this Monday morning, their house is untouched.
A mum at school 's cousin lost their house and all their belongings on Sat. They have what they are standing in. and their lives.
This will touch people from places far away from the fires through families, friends, aquaintences.
Keep safe everyone. let the fires stop soon.
